NewBeauty Magazine Wins American Society for Aesthetic Plastic Surgery 2014 Journalistic Achievement Award

Beauty publication recognized for its authentic coverage of patient safety.

NEW YORK, May 15, 2014 – NewBeauty magazine (newbeauty.com), the definitive authority on all things beauty, has received a Journalistic Achievement Award by the American Society for Aesthetic Plastic Surgery, the leading professional organization of plastic surgeons certified by the American Board of Plastic Surgery. The winning article, entitled “Dangerous Beauty: How to Avoid Plastic Surgery Nightmares”—from the publication’s Winter-Spring 2014 issue—provides an in-depth analysis on how to avoid plastic surgery blunders.

The magazine’s award-winning piece was written by NewBeauty’s Executive Beauty Editor Elise Minton, who has years of beauty reporting experience. The exposé

addresses the misconception that any board certified physician—whether trained in plastic surgery or not—is suited to perform any type of invasive or noninvasive cosmetic enhancement. As any doctor is legally allowed to administer these surgeries, the article explains that being board certified is not enough; it’s essential that patients confirm their doctor is certified in that particular specialty and practicing within scope.

“We are honored to be recognized by ASAPS for upholding journalistic integrity,” said Yolanda Yoh Bucher, Editor-in-Chief of NewBeauty. “Maintaining an authoritative, reliable and trustworthy voice has been a part of our magazine’s mission since day one, and this award is a testament to that.”

Each year, ASAPS honors journalists for their reporting on cosmetic plastic surgery in six categories: broadcast news, broadcast feature, newspaper, magazine, Internet and patient safety. Entries are judged based on a number of criteria including originality, information accuracy, balanced reporting and contribution to the public’s realistic understanding of the risks and benefits of cosmetic surgery.

“I couldn’t be happier to accept this award on behalf of the entire NewBeauty team,” Minton said. “It’s gratifying to know that our story has helped readers make educated and well-informed beauty decisions.”

Winners receive a personal certificate of merit and will be highlighted on the ASAPS website.
