Mark Strauss Assumes President Emeritus Role; Carol Cisco Named Publisher; Editor in Chief Cindy Allen Adds Chief Design Officer Title
NEW YORK, NY, February 17, 2015 – SANDOW (http://sandow.com), a leader in building smart businesses driven by innovation and design, today announced leadership changes at Interior Design, the definitive resource for design professionals. Effective today, longtime Interior Design President and Publisher Mark Strauss will become President Emeritus of the brand. As part of this transition, Strauss will launch a separate entity, Design Ventures, which will develop and execute initiatives, in partnership with SANDOW, that leverage and further strengthen the power of the design industry.
Strauss will also continue to work closely with Interior Design’s senior management team in an advisory capacity and will remain involved in key industry activities. Carol Cisco, who has been at Interior Design for over 15 years, most recently as Associate Publisher, has been named Publisher, and will manage the brand’s day-to-day advertising and business operations.
“We thank Mark for his enormous contributions to Interior Design over the past 20 years and for his important role in building out the brand’s digital and events businesses since becoming a part of the SANDOW family in 2010,” said Adam I. Sandow, Chairman and CEO of SANDOW. “We are glad that he’ll be staying on in an advisory role and look forward to collaborating with him on new design ventures.”
Added Sandow: “I’m very pleased to promote Carol, whose history with the brand and deep industry relationships make her the natural choice to move into the Publisher role.”
“Interior Design is in a very strong position across all platforms and I’m leaving the daily operations of the magazine in excellent hands,” said Strauss. “I’m thrilled to be able to remain involved with the brand as I start my next chapter within the dynamic design industry.”
Editor in Chief Cindy Allen will retain her role at Interior Design, where, since 2001, she has overseen all design and editorial content and has worked closely with Strauss to execute the overall vision for the brand. Additionally, Allen has been named Chief Design Officer of SANDOW. Her responsibilities will include providing topline strategic perspective and leadership support for various design-related partnerships, projects and opportunities that the company may pursue. Moving forward, Allen will report directly to Sandow in both of her roles.
“Because of her outstanding work on Interior Design and her depth of knowledge and expertise in the design world, we wanted to officially bestow the Chief Design Officer title on Cindy. She has already been a key part of helping our company with design initiatives over the past few years,” added Sandow. “Cindy is a valuable asset to both the brand she spearheads and our company at large.”
