NEW YORK, September 21, 2017 – The Worth Group—an integrated media company that produces content of the highest quality for sophisticated consumers, high net worth individuals, wealth advisors, prominent organizations and world-class brands—today announces the 2017 Worth Sports Summit: It’s More Than a Game, slated for October 5 at Orlando’s Dr. Phillips Center for the Performing Arts. Thought leaders from around the country will gather as speakers and guests for an interactive day to share ideas on sports innovation, build relationships and engage in discussions on how sports can foster economic growth and contribute to meaningful social impact.
The Worth Sports Summit is an annual, invitation-only event. The summit convenes key influencers and innovators including civic leaders, sports team owners, c-suite executives, athletes, entrepreneurs, academics and investors from the US and internationally, to exchange ideas and gather industry intelligence while forging new relationships. The 2017 summit will feature presentations and panel discussions covering a range of topics including economic and cultural impact, the evolution of sports consumption and the technology that will transform how we play, watch and engage with sports in the future.
“Sports is far more than just who wins and loses in the arena or on the field,” said Worth editor in chief Richard Bradley. “In ways small and big, sports touch every aspect of our society.”
Worth summits also feature technology pitches in which high potential early stage companies present their business plans to accomplished executives and investors. The Sports Technology Pitch Panels will feature eight companies chosen by Worth that are poised to make a meaningful impact in the ecosystem of sports.
Orlando is home to several professional sports teams and numerous organizations, academic institutions and sports industry businesses including: Orlando Magic, Orlando City SC, Orlando Pride, University of Central Florida, EA Sports, ESPN Wide World of Sports, the USTA, and the Florida Citrus Bowl among others.
“Here in Orlando, we’ve seen firsthand that sports are more than a game,” says Orlando Mayor Buddy Dyer. “When Orlando City Soccer Club played its first home match after the Pulse tragedy, it was more than a match—it was an opportunity for our diverse community to stand together. The power of sports emanates beyond the pitch or the court, into our boardrooms as part of our region’s economic development strategies. Our sports and cultural communities provide the quality of life and amenities young professionals and business executives desire when choosing a city in which to live. We’re proud to showcase our model at the upcoming Worth Summit.”
This year’s summit will feature keynote discussions from prominent industry leaders including WNBA President, Lisa Borders and Foursquare cofounder and owner of the Kingston, NY Stockade FC, Dennis Crowley. Other confirmed speakers include City of Orlando Mayor, Buddy Dyer; FAME Founder and CEO, David Falk; #1 Former Captain, New Zealand All Blacks, Sean Fitzpatrick; AIG Global Head of Sponsorship, Danny Glantz; human rights activist and writer, Dr. Richard Lapchick; President TD Gardens, Amy Latimer; NHL Chief Brand Officer, Brian Jennings; CEO Orlando Magic, Alex Martins; President AEG Facilities, Bob Newman and President Yaffe Sports Ventures, Ken Yaffe.
